Selous Kulinda Camp

Selous Kulinda Camp is for travellers seeking authenticity and a connection with the local environment. They will discover a camp with an independent spirit and an unmistakable sense of place. Guests will enjoy experiences full of culture, soul and traditional experiences. Selous Kulinda Camp offers an extraordinary opportunity to experience travel in a different way, visiting exceptional locations, unbeatable natural environments

Game Drive

Guests do their game drives in open vehicles specifically built for comfort and for the area and roads they traverse. They are driven by expert guides who are incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the area. The guides know where to look for the best game sightings!

A full day out on game drive, will mean that you get to go farther afield but guests will still enjoy rest breaks, tea and coffee stops, as well as a lovely lunch by the lakes or under a large tree for shade.

Walking Safari

The walking safaris take place in the park with an armed ranger. Walking in the bush is a great way to see the flora and fauna close up and from a different aspect. Walks are gentle and the knowledgeable guide will point out many things that may be missed on a game drive. No less important and even more interesting are the countless small creatures and their tracks and signs that may be encountered on foot.

Boat Safaris

There’s nothing quite like immersing yourself on the Rufiji River. The views, the sounds and the smells are ineffable. From up-close safe encounters with hippos and crocodiles to viewing shy and colourful birdlife. A boat safari allows guests to experience this picturesque place, peacefully.  A sunset stop on a riverbank is a perfect way to end the day.

There is the option to try your hand at fishing but this in on request only. Tigerfish and Catfish are found in the Rufiji River and we follow a strict catch a release fishing ethos.

Wildlife Sightings

Some common animals that you might see on a safari include:

Lions, Elephants, Giraffes, Zebra, Hippos, Crocodiles, Antelopes (such as impalas, gazelles, and kudus), Birds (such as vultures, eagles, and flamingos), Wild dogs and Water Birds.

Our professional guides at our lodge are trained to track and locate wildlife, and they will do their best to help you see as many animals as possible during your safari.

The magical hour, when the African sun drops behind the horizon, capture the special moment with a nice refreshing drink creating unforgettable memories.

Guest Feedback

We stopped at Selous Kulinder Camp as part of safari for our honeymoon. Selous kulinder camp is absolutely is evident that every single member of staff at the camp takes pride in ensuring the camp is up to standards! Upon arrival we were greeted with big smiles, shown around the camp facilities and then our luxury tent and WOW, what an absolute delight the tent was! The tent was equipped with everything we required and more! The bedroom was cleaned daily (a few times a day). The food at the camp is the best food we have tasted abroad! The staff were more than accommodating for my dietary requirement and provided us with wholesome food that we will never forget! The staff at this camp were so warm, kind and helpful, Hamisi looked after us during our trip and what a man he is! Very kind, attentive and made sure we were okay and happy with everything throughout our time there! We also met the camp manager Lydia who was absolutely lovely and again checked in with us to make sure we were happy with everything! The staff at this camp really are special people!

“The lodges are clean, well equipped and comfortable. The food is first-rate, and the staff are all excellent – friendly and helpful.
You are collected from the Mtemere Airstrip after flying in from Dar es Salaam with Coastal Aviation, and it’s about a 20-minute journey by jeep to the camp, passing through the bush and a village where the locals all wave as you pass through. Whenever you go into the game reserve on safari, the driver/guide checks you in at the Mtemere Gate, which took just a few minutes.
Steven, our driver/guide, was incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, showed us a great deal of both animals and birds and generally looked after us superbly on the full-day safaris, an early morning walking safari and a boat safari on the Rufiji River which sets off right outside the camp. On the walking safari, we were also accompanied by Michael, a trainee guide and Afumi the ranger who carried a rifle but never needed to use it.
Our ‘tent’ which was under the cover of a typical Tanzanian building had a plunge pool for which we were very grateful after a long day’s sightseeing. Each night after dinner, we were escorted back by a Maasi, armed with their long stick and a knife – not that there is any real danger, but there are monitor lizards, bush babies, baboons, banded mongoose and Colobus monkeys around the camp, none of which were a problem to us.”

“We stayed at Kulinda Camp as part of our honeymoon to Tanzania, a 4 night safari & 5 night beach holiday. Our stay at Kulinda Camp was the best part of our honeymoon, everything was perfect!

On our first day we were greeted by the hotel manager, Salum and our waiter, Sultan. Both Salum & Sultan were so friendly and made us feel very welcome, their friendlyness and excellent customer service continued throughout the whole of our stay. Sultan was so thoughtful and always made sure we were ok, anything that we asked for her went to get for us and was always available. The chef, Cherrles was absolutely fantastic, the food at every meal time was so delicious. I am gluten intolerant and he was excellent and making sure I always had something just as nice as my husband, probably the best food we’ve ever had! I always had fresh gluten free pancakes and fresh fruit every morning, which was gorgeous!

Our room was beautiful, a very cool lodge, with canvas sides and a solid ground floor and our own bathroom which was clean at all times. We booked the luxury lodge, which we were told had a private plundge pool, but it was so much more than that, more like a mini infinity pool that over looked the views of the bush. The staff at the hotel always made sure our pool was clean for when we returned from our safari tours.”
